Provincial Nominee Program
(PNP)

The Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) allow Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and who are interested in settling in a particular province. Each Canadian province and territory have its distinctive Provincial Nominee Program.

Each PNP has at least one immigration stream that is associated with the federal Express Entry immigration selection criteria. Provincial nominations issued under these Express Entry affiliated streams are known as enhanced nominations and award Express Entry candidates an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points.

This category differs slightly in that immigrants apply directly to a provincial nominee program “PNP”. This application process allows these immigrants to potentially obtain permanent residency and eventually Canadian citizenship.

While the processes vary by province, most provinces have adopted the following process:

  • You’ll start by registering an expression of interest with your preferred province. After receiving an application invitation, you’ll apply and must pass the interview if required.
  • In case of entrepreneur or business individual, you have to sign the performance agreement with the province, you’ll apply for a Canadian WORK PERMIT. Once you arrive in Canada as a foreign worker, you’ll establish your company and operate your business according to the performance agreement you had signed. Finally, you’ll apply for the nomination and later for the permanent residency.
